Details

Azurite is a well known and popular carbonate mineral that is produced when copper ore deposits endure weathering. It is also sometimes referred to as “chessylite,” and has a breathtaking deep, clear blue coloration. For centuries, it was used as a blue pigment. It is a popular collector's stone due to its intense color, but the intensity of its color can be reduced over time through exposure to heat, bright light and open air. To preserve its color, one should store one's specimen in conditions that replicate its natural setting-- that means a cool and dark storage environment. Azurite is occasionally used in jewelry or as an ornamental stone, but due to the aforementioned gradual loss of color intensity through exposure to natural elements as well as its softness, it enjoys only limited use in this department. Azurite exhibits a monoclinic prismatic crystal system, a brittle tenacity, a Moh's hardness of 3.5 to 4, a specific gravity of 3.773, and a vitreous luster. Noteworthy localities include Namibia, Morocco, France, Greece, Germany, England, Australia, Mexico, and the United States.

Metaphysically, the deep blue energy of azurite is said to resonate exactly to the frequency of the third eye chakra, and to have guided souls from even the earliest of civilizations to enlightenment. The ancient chinese called it “the stone of heaven.” It has been believed to open celestial gateways, provide healing powers and visionary insights, facilitate contact with spiritual guides, and more. Azurite is used to strengthen and cleanse the emotional body. It may harness the power to release us from stress, worry, fear and grief and temper our minds. If you struggle from insecurity and fear, many would attest that keeping azurite with you could help you to find the courage to overcome these obstacles and the negative behavioral patterns associated with them. It may be a good stone to keep around the home, as it is claimed to lessen tensions between multiple generations and step parents and step children. If you are an older individual living alone, azurite may help you to keep your mental alertness, independence and physical health.

Crystal healers use azurite's physical healing energy in treatments of bones, such as in vertebrae disorders, spinal alignment, and issues of the rib cage and smaller bones, especially in cases where bones are malformed. It is also thought to provide benefits in the case of joint problems such as arthritis, ailments of the kidneys, spleen, liver and gallbladder, and malnourished teeth and skin. If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, it may promote healthy embryo development in the womb. Additionally, it is regarded as a beneficial stone for those with brain related disorders, for the blood, and for the aging process. Many attest that it facilitates in the circulation and oxygenation of blood, works to reverse blockages and injury to the brain, eases dementia such as in the case of Alzheimer's, improves reflexes, and soothes cases of tinnitus, migraines and vertigo.
