Sometimes used as a gemstone, phenacite (or “phenakite”) consists of beryllium orthosilicate and is a rather rare (and highly priced) nesosilicate mineral. The crystals are isolated and occasionally transparent and colorless, but are more often translucent and yellowish or grayish in coloration. They can also be pink, rose-red or brown. Phenacite is often mistaken for quartz. It forms in mica-schists associated with apatite, topaz, chrysoberyl and quartz and in high temperature pegmatite veins. Notable localities include Russia, Norway, Alsace, and Colorado and Maine in the United States. This stone exhibits a tabular, prismatic to acicular crystal habit, a trigonal crystal system, a Moh's scale hardness of 7.5 to 8, a specific gravity of 2.93 to 3, and a vitreous luster. At the time it was discovered, it was often confused with clear topaz or clear quartz. Many phenacite crystals are very small, but because enthusiasts consider this stone to be very powerful, this fact does not matter as much as it would for a less powerful stone.
Phenacite is associated with the third eye and higher crown chakras and the astrological sign of gemini. Its numerical vibration is 9. In fact, it is well known and sought after as the highest vibration mineral in existence on the planet. It is considered to be an advanced level crystal in the metaphysical world. An extremely intense and powerful stone, it is said to open up its user's visionary intuition, as well as his or her awareness of spiritual realms such as the Ascended Masters and Angelic Realms. It is also believed to facilitate the process of “downloading” spiritual knowledge and aid in the alignment of its user and the higher self. With the help of phenacite, some people claim that they have been successful in accessing the Akashic Record. In addition to the aforementioned benefits, this gemstone may deepen the meditation experience, clear and heal every chakra within the body, promote unconditional love, significant personal growth and consciousness of Christ, strengthen the community, and build unity between members of a group to help them to achieve a common purpose or goal. When using your specimen of phenacite, consider keeping a good grounding stone nearby. Examples of good grounding stones to use for this purpose include red jasper, black tourmaline, and hematite.
In the world of physical healing, phenacite is considered to be invaluable in that it can promote all types of healing due to its extremely high vibration. Simply pair it with any other gemstone and it should multiply that gemstone's energies. Alone, phenacite is used by crystal healers to activate the pineal gland and treat issues of the carotid arteries, jugular veins, hypothalamus, amygdala, spine and throat. It is also believed to help relieve eye strain and tension in the optic nerve. It is evident that phenacite is a prime example of genuine multidimensional healer.
