The crystal form of zincite is a very rare occurrence in nature, except in the case of the Sterling Hill and Franklin Mines in New Jersey, in the United States. Even in these locations, it generally only occurs in grain-sized pieces. Its color is a product of the impurities present within it, but it has been found in deep red, yellow-orange, and sometimes yellow, green or colorless forms. Its crystal structure is hexagonal. Zincite crystals are also artificially grown and made available after zinc smelting as a by-product. Both the natural and the synthetic crystals functioned as semiconductor crystal detectors in crystal radios before the time of vacuum tubes. Zincite exhibits a Moh’s scale hardness of 4, a specific gravity of 5.64-5.68, a subadamantine to resinous luster, and is translucent or transparent (in thin fragments). Besides in New Jersey in the United States, zincite is found in scarce amounts in Colorado (USA), Italy, Namibia, Poland, Australia, and Spain and Tasmania.

In the metaphysical world, zincite is valued for its alleged ability to significantly stimulate all chakras and energize the entire body. It is considered to be a powerful stone with potent healing properties. Upon simply holding this stone in hand, most people will immediately be able to sense its energy and feel a connection to it. Because it is possible to get too much of a good thing, it is recommended that even little zincite specimens only be used in small doses. This amazing healing crystal is claimed to spark and enhance creativity and aid in manifestation of visions of the third eye in a matter of minutes. These visions may then be brought into reality via the stone’s stimulation of the chakras governing the physical. Those under zincite’s influence commonly report a newfound and unrivaled excitement for life and an opening of the imagination. The combined benefits of energy and inspiration provided by zincite make it a powerful tool in making one’s dreams a reality. This crystal has also been known to synthesize groups of things or people, making it valuable to have around in a workplace setting. Its influence may very well promote the group efforts of like-minded people, increasing company morale and productivity. This effect could particularly be valuable in the world of athletics, as well as in other occupations where group chemistry and teamwork are of utmost importance.

In crystal healing lore, zincite has been used to treat auto-immune diseases (including but not limited to AIDS), chronic fatigue, candida and bronchitis. Many people suffering from epilepsy have claimed that carrying zincite with them, wearing it in the form of jewelry, or even just holding it periodically seems to ward off epileptic seizures. Other people claim that it possesses the power to increase one’s sexual energy. Additionally, this crystal is used as a booster for distance healing in radionics.
