Discovered around the year 2001, it is an unusual type of purple colored quartz that owes its color to ferrous iron impurities. It is only found in South Africa, in the Magaliesberg Mountain region, and consists of a single crystal that terminates in a faceted point and is surrounded by hundreds of similarly shaped but smaller crystals.
