Details

Cryolite, sometimes also called by the name of “ice stone,” is an uncommon halide mineral (specifically, a sodium aluminum fluoride) that can be colorless, white, brown, red, or rarely black in coloration. Its crystals are prismatic and monoclinic. It exhibits a specific gravity of 2.95 to 3, a Moh's hardness of 2.5 to 3, and is transparent to translucent. It is found in granite intruded  gneiss as a pegmatite. An interesting fact about cryolite is that when the colorless variety is immersed in water, it becomes invisible. This is because it has a refractive index that is very close to that of water. There once was a large deposit of cryolite located on Greenland's west coast, but by 1987, it was depleted. Aside from this location, cryolite has also been found in the United States, Canada, Russia, Brazil, Namibia, and Ukraine. Historically, cryolite's function was as an ore of aluminum. Later, it was used in the electrolytic processing of bauxite, which is an aluminum rich oxide ore. It is no longer used in this way, as it is considered to be too rare for this purpose. Cryolite has also been used as a pesticide and insecticide, in the refining of aluminum, and to give yellow color to fireworks.

Cryolite is considered to be a highly spiritual, high vibration stone. It is said to bring the crown, heart, and third eye chakras into alignment and harmony in a way unlike other crystals. This should energize the brain, create a strong link between the heart and the mind, and produce a deep connection to spirit and higher realms. If you are interested in lightbody awakening, ascension and the enlightment that comes along with it, you may want to consider attaining one of these powerful crystals so that it may aid you in your journey. Although it is mainly associated with the aforementioned chakras, cryolite is actually said to have a strong vibration within all chakras. In keeping this crystal as a companion, whether carried or worn, one might feel a “flow of light” throughout one's entire body, or even experience kundalini activation at the base chakra. Its keeper might also experience euphoria, peace, faith, and increased understanding. Additionally, cryolite is said to calm the nerves of those who must engage in public speaking, and increase environmental and personal awareness. If you feel out of place, you might find yourself suddenly understanding your role in an environment and the importance of the responsibilities associated with it. It is also likely that you will no longer feel afraid of expressing to the world who you really are. The energy that you give off should fall into harmony with your innermost intentions and thoughts.

As far as physical healing is concerned, crystal healers have used cryolite in the treatment of eye infections and to alleviate chills. However, it is believed to promote optimal general physical health as it is regarded as a regulator of energy flow throughout the entire physical body.
