Halite, also referred to as “rock salt,” is a commonly found and well known mineral. It is also crucial for life forms on this planet. It is the naturally occurring form of salt. It can be found in salt lakes and oceans in a dissolved solution or as a solid mass in various locations formed via various processes. Halite comes in a range of colors due to impurities, crystal lattice defects or-- in the case of the peach and pink varieties-- bacteria present along with certain dry lake halite specimens. This crystal must be kept dry, as it is a sodium chloride crystal and therefore soluble in water. It exhibits an isometric crystal system, a transparent to translucent transparency, a brittle tenacity, a vitreous luster, a white streak, and a hardness of 2-2.5 on the Mohs scale. Everyone knows that salt is one of the most commonly used spices for flavoring the foods we eat. It is also used in large quantities to melt ice on roads and walkways so that we may walk and drive safely on them.
In the world of physical healing, all forms of halite are said to ease the symptoms of asthma, allergies, migraines and seasonal affective disorder (S.A.D.), correct chemical imbalance, fight infection in the body and bring down fever, and combat illness and/or a range of disorders of the lungs and nervous system. Pink halite in particular is said to aid in the healing of heart problems, as well.
In the metaphysical world, pink halite is regarded as a crystal of personal power and healing and is associated the element of earth and the astrological signs of cancer and pisces. Although it is also associated with all chakras of the body, keeping it near or wearing it set in jewelry (especially in the form of a pendant on a necklace) on a daily basis is believed to result in the harmonization of the solar plexus and heart chakras, resulting in the promotion of self love and a self loving lifestyle. Pink halite's influence is also said to dissolve doubt and confusion, heal emotional wounds, and facilitate the cleaning up of one's physical and spiritual environments. This means that long avoided incomplete projects, unhealthy relationships, bad habits and the like may be addressed. Additionally, some people choose to put pink halite in their bath water, claiming that it clears and restores their spiritual energy. One piece may be used over and over again until it completely dissolves in the water. Because of its excellent purification properties, many people use halite to cleanse other crystals. Simply taking a bowl of salt and placing your crystals in it is believed to rid said crystals of any impurities or negative energy acquired through use over time. Another use for halite is in the making of “halite salt lamps.” These are frequently used for the purpose of cleaning the atmosphere of harmful electromagnetic emissions and indoor pollutants and easing allergies. They also give off a pleasant glow, elevating one's mood.
