Chalcopyrite (sometimes also called “peacock rock” or “peacock ore" when heat-treated) is a striking brassy golden yellow mineral that falls under the copper iron sulfide category. Some specimens may also have an iridescent purple tarnish on them. It is widespread and exhibits a tetragonal crystal system, a Moh's scale hardness of 3.5, a specific gravity of 4.1-4.3, poor cleavage, a greenish black streak and a metallic luster. It is magnetic on heating. It is the most significant copper ore and is formed via a variety of processes in numerous ore-bearing environments. Examples of environments include sedimentary exhalative deposits and volcanogenic massive sulfide ore deposits. In addition to its aforementioned alternate names, chalcopyrite is one of two minerals that are commonly referred to as “fools gold.” Historically, it was the mineral upon which civilizations were built back in the Bronze Age. Now, it is the mineral foundation for the electrical age of modern society.
Chalcopyrite is associated with the zodiac sign of the capricorn. It resonates with all chakras, but especially the third eye and crown chakras. Its numerical vibration is 9. It is considered to be a powerful cleansing stone, and also to be protective against infections, evil influences, and during healing work. Chalcopyrite sometimes goes by the nickname “tonic stone” due to its alleged ability to increase vitality. If you are feeling low energy and can't seem to muster up the motivation to get up and get things done, the influence of this stone might uplift you. Aside from the boost in vitality, chalcopyrite has other benefits to offer in the metaphysical world. Handling it, keeping it near, and/or wearing it set in jewelry on a regular basis is said to result in the healing of feelings of disorientation or confusion, heightening of perception, tempering of the soul and exposure to the truth. It is believed to assist in meditation, in that it is claimed to help one to achieve and then maintain the meditative state and strengthen the connection between its keeper and the universe.
In the world of physical healing, chalcopyrite is valued by crystal healers for a variety of reasons. It is said to have an excellent effect on a patient's nervous system which may result in more logical thinking, among a plethora of other benefits. It is believed to have a powerful healing effect on the entire body as a whole, clearing any and all obstructions that may be preventing perfect health. Additionally, many claim that this mineral helps fight both bacterial and viral infections and fevers, stimulates hair growth, relieves pressure due to growths (and sometimes also constricts them, preventing their increasing in size) and alleviates issues related to the respiratory system. If you are an acupuncturist or will be undergoing acupuncture, you might consider keeping a specimen of chalcopyrite nearby, as it may aid in the flow of energy and assist the body to integrate energy flow.
